Professor Yizhi Liu, MD, PhD, is a professor of ophthalmology and visual science and director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center at Sun Yat-sen University. He currently serves as a standing committee member of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO), vice president of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society (COS), deputy director of the Cataract and Intraocular Lenses Division of COS, and president of the Guangdong Ophthalmological Society. He also serves as co-editor-in-chief of Molecular Vision and associate editor of Current Molecular Medicine.
As a clinical ophthalmologist, Dr. Liu is recognized as one of the pioneer ophthalmologists in China who perform phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. He has so far carried out approximately 200,000 surgical operations for cataract patients.
Dr. Liu’s research focuses on the molecular architecture controlling ocular stem cells’ self-renewal and differentiation, along with the genomic and epigenetic mechanisms of cataract and many other age-related eye diseases. He has published over 100 research articles and case reports in leading scientific journals such as Nature, Science, the New England Journal of Medicine, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
Dr. Liu is the recipient of numerous awards, including the APAO Arthur Lim Award.
